Mariposarium (Butterfly House)

Along the same road that leads to the Machu Picchu Museum and the Mandor Waterfalls is the Mariposarium, or Butterfly House. While a visit here doesn’t take a very long time, it’s a great opportunity to learn about the life cycle of butterflies, especially for kids.

A labor of love, the butterfly sanctuary is a private endeavor, aimed at helping to conserve and repopulate the local species. Not only are the butterflies worth seeing in all their stages, the setting is beautiful, surrounded by mountains and alongside the river. The tour itself only takes about 20 minutes, and to get there is an easy 20 minutes walk from the hotel.
